Why the differentials matter.
The Department of Labor’s Fact Sheet #54 puts shift differentials inside the regular rate. Leave them out, and every overtime hour is paid on the base rate alone.
Take a $40.00 base rate and a $4.00 night differential on 24 hours of a 48-hour workweek. The regular rate is $42.00, so each of the 8 overtime hours is due at $63.00, not the $60.00 that time and a half of the base alone gives. That week, and seven worked examples from the Fact Sheet, are checked to the cent by the app’s own tests.
Tap the total and it opens into its arithmetic: your base rate, each differential, the regular rate, straight-time hours, overtime hours and the rule that made them overtime.

Log a shift by clock or by hand.
Clock in from the Pay screen, and the timer keeps running while you move around the app. Breaks start and stop with a tap. Or add a shift afterwards: day and night templates, 7a to 7p and 7p to 7a, are there from the start.
A shift that crosses midnight, or the end of a workweek or pay period, is split at that boundary, and the shift shows you the split. There is no limit on how many shifts or pay periods you keep.

Your rules, typed by you.
Enter your base rate and your differentials: per hour, as a percentage of base, or a flat amount per shift. Night and weekend ones cover the hours you set; charge and holiday ones apply to shifts you mark. Pay periods can be weekly, every two weeks, twice a month or monthly.
“Copy my rules” puts your differentials and overtime rule on the clipboard as plain text, without your base rate or any shift, so a coworker can check them against their contract and add their own rate.
Overtime is counted by the weekly 40 rule: every hour after the 40th in your workweek is paid at time and a half of your regular rate. The 8 and 80 rule, California daily and seventh-day overtime, on-call and call-back pay, a second job and the paystub check come with Ratefold Pro.

Also in the app.
Reports by week, pay period, month and year, each total opening to its arithmetic. A month calendar. Every past pay period. A CSV of your shifts for a spreadsheet, backups you can restore, and a passcode lock.

What it is not
Ratefold works out gross pay only. It does not estimate taxes, deductions or take-home pay. It does not judge your employer: it shows the arithmetic under the rules you set, and if your contract pays differently, your contract decides. No hospital’s or union’s contract is built in.

No account, no ads
No sign-up, no login. Your shifts are stored on your phone and Ratefold sends them nowhere; they leave only if you copy them out, or your phone’s own backup includes them. No ads and no usage tracking. It works with no connection at all.
Ratefold Pro, a subscription through Google Play or the App Store, adds the 8 and 80 rule, California daily and seventh-day overtime, on-call and call-back pay, a second job and the paystub check. Everything above stays free.
